The career of the singer Elvira Viegas began in a choir group in the neighborhood of Mafalala. She went on to win the hearts of generations, enchanting and inspiring thousands of fans over five decades. At the concert, Elvira Viegas will share the stage with several national artists who have been part of her journey, including Sizaquel Mathombe, Ivone Viegas, Orquestra Xiquitsi, Nelton Miranda, Bernardo Domingos, Djivas, Fadir, Machote, Livio, Ivete, Sacres, Valy, Raimundo, Alvin Cossa and Mangovia, ACCD Ungasoly.

Elvira Viegas is celebrating her 50th career anniversary this year. And the biggest celebration is scheduled for November 22, starting at 6pm, at the Mozambique-China Cultural Center.

Exhibition

Vovo’s and Fred Bulande have come together in “Vozes da Inclusão”, an exhibition that will be on show at the Fernando Leite Couto Foundation gallery until November 1st. Vovo’s and Fred began their journey in the 1990s, in a new social context, between the utopia of peace, freedom, democracy and the new technological era.

Orpheus McAdoo

Musical

The musical tells the little-known story of an African-American choir, The Virginia Jubilee Concert Company, which visited South Africa in the 1890s at the invitation of the Governor’s wife, Lady Loch. Orpheus McAdoo introduced jubilee singing to South Africa and this musical recreates the way his choir sang the old spirituals over 120 years ago. With a star-studded cast including Brittany Smith, Dean Balie, Jody Abrahams, Eldon van der Merwe, Elton Landrew and Alexis Petersen.

David Kramer, in collaboration with Cape Town Opera, presents Orpheus McAdoo on October 18th.

Maun International Arts

Festival

November 18th

On November 5th, Maun International Arts takes place in Gabarone, a festival that presents a wide range of artistic expressions, including Comedy, Poetry, Live Music, Dance, Hip Hop, Visual Arts, Theatre and Creative Writing. The festival promotes artistic development through a series of workshops and symposiums.z
