Zalala Beach Lodge – The suspended time
The casuarinas, restless by the wind, improvise the always viral (mis)choreography of the harlem shake. The body tries to shed the weight of the night. Arms stretched out like Da Vinci’s Vitruvian style as if it were a big hug to the morning, which again arrives.
We are at Zalala Beach Lodge, another great example of a hotel resort built on the edge of the Indian Ocean that takes its name from the place where the land gives its name to the sea – or is it the opposite? Anyway. This sea hisses, a salt serpent making its way across this large piece of hot – and golden – land.
At the first rays of the sun, there is absolute silence, only broken by the large artisanal waves that break the rocks and sculpt the stones. The waves reach the shore with the ambition of having more sea, of being more sea. The sea, which is an omnipresent landscape in this lodge suggesting an exercise of the senses, sets the rhythm and time. And no time. Sitting here, we feel helpless from the emergencies, as if the hourglass couldn’t send the fine grains of sand any further down.

▶ How to get there
Fly with LAM to the Zambezian capital, Quelimane. Afterwards, it is a journey of around 30 km by car along the path of palm trees like sentinels.
▶ What to do
Watch the sunrise and sunset over the Indian landscape. Let yourself be immersed in the local vibe, whit the beach as a meeting point.
▶ Where to eat
Several options of taverns by the sea, following this aim of putting the sea at the table. The restaurant at Zalala Beach Lodge may also be a good option.
