Da Kota Restaurant – A refuge full of flavour
Affectionately nicknamed “kota” (“mom”) by those closest to her, Rabia Mamade was the inspiration behind the creation of the “da Kota” restaurant. As the owner of the catering company Lia & Liana Services, Mamade created the restaurant at the request of several clients who wanted to enjoy the unique flavours offered by the catering service in a pleasant setting.
Three years on, “da Kota” has established its position in the increasingly crowded restaurant market in the Mozambican capital. Located on Marginal Avenue, just a few metres from the beach, it offers a diverse cuisine in a comfortable and peaceful retreat where the sea breeze can be felt – ideal for whetting the appetite.
Sidik Gulamo, the manager, attributes the success of “da Kota” to the fact that it belongs to “one of the largest catering companies, thus combining catering experience with restaurant experience, offering varied service solutions.”
In addition to cuisine, “da Kota” also provides music to its customers
Open since January 2020, “da Kota” bravely survived the pandemic and now faces the challenge of remaining attractive amid the vast offer of restaurants in the city of Maputo. A combination of luck and hard work, the space certainly attracts more and more diners. They come for the food, are seduced by the beauty of the place, and end up involved in the various chords that fill the space. In addition to cuisine, “da Kota” also provides music to its customers; in other words, it offers “after work” events. These moments were created for those who want to relax after a day of work. “On these days, the restaurant takes on a different, more lively atmosphere.”
The kitchen also gets lively, with popular dishes such as the famous grilled salmon. Worthy of mention is the vegetable lasagne, which features the (not so) famous broccoli as its star. According to Gulamo, the secret of this lasagne lies in the freshness of the vegetables, which, depending on the season, are taken from “Kota’s” vegetable garden.
Regardless of your age, “da Kota” is the right choice for a gastronomic experience outside the routine. If you want to enjoy a calm dinner, you can visit the space on a Saturday, but if you’re looking for a livelier atmosphere, Friday night is when to go. Be sure to visit.
