Botânica – A garden of people and moments

It was during a relaxed conversation among friends about cooking, and “in between drinks”, that the idea of ​​creating what would become Botânica came up. From the name it could be just a garden, but it is a beautiful corner where a variety of delicacies are prepared.

In the words of Sultana Macropulos, owner of the restaurant, “the idea was to create a space with a concept which did not exist in Maputo: combining good Greek cuisine with the green of nature; a space that was relaxing, stimulating and relaxed”.

And Botânica is, in fact, all that and much more. Once the venue doors open, it feels like leaving the city and entering, in fact, a garden, which isn’t secret but hides plenty of good secrets.  The green of the plants immediately cheers us up and the Mediterranean-inspired decor transports us to faraway destinations. The explosion of Nature all around us enhances our eyesight and sparks the desire to try the house delicacies.

A good way to start is with the famous cheese samosas with honey and sesame seeds, which are an original Botânica product and attract legions of fans. But, there’s plenty more dips to choose from and satisfy the most demanding of palates – such as the famous Tzatziki, the Charcuterie Board, the Botânica Frangipani, the Crab Salad, and many other dishes that make up the menu.

And if you think that at Botânica there is no place for a more… “local” menu, you’re wrong! There are dishes with sweet potato leaves and tseke, typical Mozambican ingredients, cooked in Mediterranean style.  Impossible not to feel the slightest bit of curiosity in trying it out!

But it’s not just the delicious meals that attract the public, as Macropulos tells us. “Many people come to Botânica for work meetings, because the silence makes for a good conversation, without having to raise your voice; the music is quiet; friends come to talk and relax.”

It is all this and much more that makes Botânica special, or “unique”, as the owner happily tells us. “Botânica is made of people and moments.” A simple quote that sums up the complexity of this restaurant, where each day is a fantastic day to have a meal.
