NOM – A garden of flavours
In an increasingly cosmopolitan city like Maputo, having many good restaurants is essential to please the most demanding of palates. And that’s where NOM comes in!
Nestled in one of the capital’s prime areas, it describes itself as “a secret garden in the middle of the bustling city of Maputo, where you can relax and enjoy a cocktail or a meal.”
And it is, in fact, a charming garden, which since 2019 has been hiding delicious secrets and experiences. “We realized, at the time, that people were looking for spaces and experiences different from the usual ones and, in this context, we did not hesitate to open a (…) space in Maputo.” Good food, cocktails that have already become a reference in the city, delicious tapas and music make up the quartet which NOM is made of.
But where does this very… peculiar name come from? “We tried to interpret and put into words the act of eating, ‘NOM NOM NOM’, and from that came just the NOM.” The answer, after all, is so simple that we should all ask “but how come I never thought of this?!”
Doubts aside, NOM’s certainty is that having conquered a vast clientele and having managed to navigate the pandemic was due to the dedication to always come up with new things, whether in food or experiences. “We have different dishes and we like to innovate and test new flavours to please different audiences.”
Speaking of dishes, at NOM there is something for all tastes. There is the Sea menu, the Land menu, the Asian menu and the already famous tapas. And it is in the Asian menu that we find our recommendation, the Malay Curry. “We use a lot of herbs in our dishes, and coriander is one of them. If I had to choose a dish, it would be the Malay Shrimp and Fish Curry, in which the secret of the seasoning is precisely in the herbs that we put in, in this case the coriander. It’s a must!”
Another must is, without a doubt, the Happy Hour dedicated to women, which takes place on Thursdays. “The idea came about on Mozambican Women’s Day, during which we prepared something special, both for our female team and for the women of Maputo. We decided that instead of celebrating women just one day a year, we should make this celebration a recurring one. We thought of a Happy Hour for women, for which we invite Djs (mostly women) to play, and we accompany the moment with our menu of tapas and special promotional cocktails.”
If we’ve already given you enough reasons to visit this garden of flavours, choose to do so during the weekend, the perfect occasion to fully enjoy the food and space.
