Félix Salgado – An all terrain hike
Born in Manica province, Félix Salgado wore the Mozambican Airlines (LAM) shirt for 30 years.
Félix Salgado joined Mozambican Airlines in March 1982, having just completed a course in mechanics at the Industrial Institute in Maputo. At first, he was included in the Structures Department.
Later, he had a scholarship to study in Ireland, where he specialised in Structural Repairs. Back in Mozambique, Salgado was sent to the Studies and Engineering Office, where he became responsible for the structural repair of LAM’s fleet. Along the way, he was also part of the Special Operations Department.
In the 2000s, with the need to restructure the Commercial Department, he was appointed to work in this area. Here, he played the role of Head of the Customer Service and Marketing Department. It was back then that LAM “established a customer service line”, the “a customer, a friend” pin and consolidated the “Flamingo Club” program, he remembers with some nostalgia.
But he was once again transferred, then to the Operations Department, having been responsible for the Inflight Assistance Department.
He then went on to manage the Quality, Flight Safety and Environment Department. “It was at this time that we started to certify LAM according to the ISO 9001 Standard and the benefits became evident at the time”, he recalls proudly, who also had the challenge of certifying LAM under IATA (IOSA) standards.
In 2012, he began to feel the pressure of all this work and asked to go into retirement. However, he brags about his path: “I went through LAM’s multiple metamorphoses.”
