Leader in the domestic market and a strong competitor in the African region, Mozambican Airlines (LAM), our flag company, has been con- ducting weekly flights between Maputo and Lisbon since August 15, in a series that will last until September 30, 2020.
The route between Mozambique and Portugal is a path that promotes the circulation of passengers and cargo between the two countries, which already has a historic dynamic; the increase in frequency will further this mobility, for the benefit of both communities. At present, there is a notable increase in demand for the route, so it is important to increase the offering and with a Mozambican product.
In the past, LAM operated on several intercontinental routes, for which it had the support of other operators, creating its own capacity and even giving support to other operators in the region, to establish themselves in its markets. This time, LAM will partner with a European operator that will create the necessary capacity in the company and its Mozambican staff, to manage a project of this magnitude.
The flights will be operated by a modern Hi-Fly Airbus A330-300 aircraft, capable of carrying up to 278 passengers and cargo. “With these flights, we intend to take the name of Mozambique again, with our colors, to Lisbon and later to other markets like India, China and Brazil, with a solid and sustainable LAM. The important thing, at this moment, is to recognize that we have the capacity,” LAM’s Managing Director, João Carlos Pó Jorge, stated.
This whole project is part of the restructuring plan that the company’s shareholder is carrying out to make LAM a strong company in the market and with the training of national staff. In the first stage of this plan, LAM stabilized the schedules and had a high level of punctuality and operational safety performance, which were internationally recognized.
